A SUNDAY SPANISH LUNCH

Last year, we began a fun tradition with our friends and started a family-friendly supper club. Throughout the year, we pick a date and a country, and plot a delicious and festive menu. We take turns hosting and always have lots of banter about what to make (obviously there is a dedicated text thread and shared notes file). In honor of my recent Spain trip, we focused on a Spanish menu. Here’s what we made:

  • pan con tomate with jamon Iberico and Serrano (duh) from Teodora’s Boucherie, plus fried chorizo with spicy mustard. (The Mediterranean Dish has a recipe for the tomato bread).

  • 3 types of Spanish cheeses: 12-month aged Manchego, Drunken Goat, and Cordobes

  • octopus by our friends with a crispy green salad, potatoes, capers, and cornichons

  • jamon Serrano croquetas from Spanish Sabores

  • a simple Spanish-style salad with greens, string beans, carrots, corn, and red wine vinegar and olive oil

  • chorizo and turnip stew by our friend Mark courtesy of his Spanish step-father

  • tarta de santiago for dessert from Caroline’s Cooking; a simple almond cake that everyone loved
